The NPESC held its AGM at the Nautical Campus of Camosun College on November 25th.
The NPESC is a "Registered Society" in Canada with the goal of furthering the professional education of Canadian mariners. The Society works closely with the Marine Campus of the British Columbia Institute of Technology, Camosun College, the Western Marine Institute and other Canadian educational institutions. The Society is a member of the Coalition of Maritime Organisations on Education, chaired through the offices of the Chamber of Shipping of British Columbia.
In attendance were Captain John Lewis (Chairman), Captain Brian Silvester (Secretary/Treasurer), Captain David Whittaker (Director), Mr. Richard Smith (Director), Captain Ivan Oxford (Director and Program Leader/Lead Instructor for Camosun's Nautical Department), Captain Zak Farid (Director), Lieutenant Commander, Rtd. Gerry Stanford (Director and founding member).
Prior to the meeting a presentation was made to Camosun nautical student Simon Winterburn.
Simon, currently enrolled in the Watchkeeping Mate program at Camosun College, was the successful recipient of the NPESC bursary for 2014. (see enclosed photo - Lieutenant Commander, Rtd. Gerry Stanford makes the 2014 bursary presentation to Simon Winterburn ).
